Dreamers Legacy Care School

The Dreamers Legacy Care School opened its doors in February 2024 after 5 years of fundraising, planning, and constructing.

The school is now providing a free education for 230 children aged between 3-17 although we are hoping to enrol more students as we build more classrooms. Currently (Nov 2024), we have 8 classrooms catering for kindergarten to P5 and 16 employees.

We have built 4 classroom blocks, toilets, installed running water, a water tank, a school shop, and a playground for playing football and netball.

We recently started to build a small house to provide onsite accommodation for teachers who travel a long distance to get to school.

Another project has been planting grass and trees to keep the school compound green and fresh. We also created a vegetable garden and planted a variety of fruit trees. We have a few goats which we plan to breed so we can provide each family with a goat.

One of our biggest achievement to date was fundraising to install three public water taps so that people in the community have access to running water.

We are so happy that school is finally open and thankful to all the donors and individuals who have contributed to this dream. We are making great progress and envision a bright future; however,  many challenges remain.

Due to limited funds, we have only managed to build eight classrooms so far, but we still need to build three more classrooms and a multipurpose hall for the school. We also need to build standard toilets for both the children and staff/volunteers as well as finish the accommodation for teachers that travel long distances.

Consistency in the flow of income is required to pay all the staff their monthly wages which equates to approximately USD 1300 per month at the moment. Our plan is to ensure that the school is financially stable and able to cover all expenses without relying on irregular donations. For this, we are exploring a variety of channels including grant applications, organisations that support paying teachers, running a successful volunteer programme, guesthouse, and souvenir shop, etc.

Other wishes:

  • Installation of solar panels so we can have electricity at the school
  • Construction of a dormitory for students
  • Purchase of sewing machines so we can teach the children how to make clothes
  • Purchase of the school van
